Het werk van Cees Krijnen (1969) laat zich lezen als een spannend dagboek. Het is direct, persoonlijk en aansprekend. Het is een soort egodocument dat gebaseerd is op gebeurtenissen uit zijn eigen leven. Centrale figuur is zijn moeder Greta Blok. Hij heeft van de slepende echtscheidingszaak waarin zij vijftien jaar lang verwikkeld was, zijn eigen ‘reality theater’ gemaakt, reden om de Prix de Rome 1999 mee te winnen. Het project The woman in Divorce Battle bestaat uit een reeks activiteiten, soms ernstig van toon maar ook vaak hilarisch, waarin zijn moeder telkens weer als morele overwinnaar naar voren treedt.

With only a 6-week waiting period ( instead of Greta Blok's 884 weeks ),finally established by law, thousands of men and women received a "quickie" divorce in the Wild West. The rich and famous had found the ideal place to gain their freedom. Fabulous hotels and "dude" ranches sprang from the green meadows to accomodate the unhitched to be. And soon the valley was glittering with diamond rings thrown by happy divorcees. Cees Krijnen.
